KARACHI - The strike call given by Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat against the attack on Maulana Orangzaib Farooqi, leader of renamed Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, was observed partially in the City.The leader of ASWJ Maulana Orangzaib Farooqi narrowly escaped the attack while his six guards were gunned down. The ASWJ leaders called a strike and demanded the arrest of assailants involved in the killing of over 120 workers and leaders during the current wave of sectarian violence. According to details, miscreants were resorted to indiscriminate firing in different areas of the City and left some six people wounded to make the strike successful. The areas where strike call have been paralysed the commercial and non-commercial activities were including Abu Al-Hassan Isphahani Road, Lasbela, Nagan Chowrangi, New Karachi, Qayyumabad, Gurumandar Shershah, Patel Para and Banaras.The miscreants resorted firing, burnt tyres and also forced shopkeepers to put off markets and Bazaars while major city areas including Sadder, Tariq Road, Hydri Market, Anarkali Bazaar, markets in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Federal B Area, Babar Market, Liaquat Market remained not closed while people avoided coming to the markets because of panic and fear.On the other side, Karachi Transport Ittehad and Petrol Pump Associations completely supported the strike call given by the SSP and shut off the pumps and transport till the leadership of SSP ended up the strike call after meeting with the delegation of Karachi Tajir Ittehad. They reached the hospital and met with wounded leader of SSP Maulana Farooqi. A very few minibuses were seen on roads, however, rickshaws and taxis took benefit of situation and charged higher fares. On the other hand, Registrar University of Karachi cancelled BA, BSc and BEd examinations scheduled on Thursday. The examinations have been delayed for indefinite period and new dates will be announced later, the KU spokesman said.ASWJ central leader Maulana Ahmed Ludhyanvi reached Karachi and asked party workers to remain peaceful and cooperate with the authorities for maintaining the peace in city. Meanwhile, funeral prayers of police personnel including Imran, Waheed Khan and Saleem gunned down while guarding Maulana Farooqi have had offered in Garden police headquarter and the body of a policeman hailed from interior Sindh had also been transported to his hometown.Maulana Ahmed Ludhyanvi also offered the funeral prayer of deceased driver killed in the attack in Landhi area where scores of SSP workers participated and chanted slogans against the worst law and order situation and demanded the arrest of culprits involved in the killing of SSP workers and leaders.   Police said four people were injured in firing incidents at Korangi, Ghas Mandi and Malir. Extra contingent of police and Rangers were deployed in sensitive areas.
