KARACHI – Sindh Inspector General of Police Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari has directed that extraordinary security measures be taken for the fifth death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto being marked on December 27 (today).He instructed the police that every possible security step be taken in the province for maintenance of law and order and protection of lives and property of the people.Leghari pointed out that caravans of people from all over the country would reach Ghari Khuda Bux.He asked the police to keep a vigilant eye on the entry points in Sindh and there should be an effective system of checking and surveillance.The IGP also called for enhancing patrolling and snap checking on the highways and other routes.Police personnel in required numbers be deployed on check points on the highway and other roads.Parking should be at a considerable distance from Ghari Khuda Bux Graveyard and the mazars of Quaid-i-Awam and Shaheed-i-Jamhoriat.Police personnel should be deployed at the parking lots and bomb disposal squads be also deputed.The IGP further instructed that there would be surveillance and monitoring of the roads leading to Ghari Khuda Bux.He said that the intelligence network should be strengthened further.COP SHOT DEAD: A policeman was shot dead in a firing incident in Pak Colony area on Wednesday evening. He was identified as Amjad Ali, 30, son of Suleman Ali. Police officials said that the deceased was posted at Garden Police Headquarters. He was in police uniform and going somewhere when some unidentified culprits shot him dead. He was shot multiple times and died at the spot. His body was taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi for autopsy. DSP Rana Shoaib said that the motive behind the incident had yet to be ascertained. No case was registered till the filing of this report. In another act of firing, an elderly man, Salahuddin, 65, Abdul Rasheed, was killed and two others wounded in North Karachi area within the remits of Sir Syed police station. SHO Balaghat Hussain said that the deceased was killed by armed men. He said some unidentified armed men were busy looting the passersby. They resorted to firing after a shopkeeper opened fire at them. He said that the victims were sitting outside a dry clean shop. The body and the injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
