LAHORE– The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Wednesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court, alleged that the Punjab government had rigged by-polls in the province. MQM Punjab Vice President Shaheen Anwar Gillani filed the petition at the Lahore registry of the apex court, maintaining that the PML-N provincial government used state resources in by-polls to secure victory.The petition says that the PML-N leaders and workers violated the election commission code of conduct by exhibiting arms on the pollingday. It adds that the Punjab government used provincial police like a militant force.The petitioner requested the court to take notice of the illegality committed by the provincial government and issue necessary directions to the ECP to ensure transparency in the upcoming general elections.  Separately, a court got 52 kiln workers recovered from the illegal detention of a kiln owner in Raiwind. A relative of the detainees had filed a petition,alleging that the kiln owner Haji Naseer had detained 52 members of his clan and subjected them to torture to get forced labour.  The court had deputed a bailiff for the recovery of the detainees which included ten women, 20 minors and 22 men. The court freed all the workers and directed the police to get their medical examination for further proceedings against the kiln owner.
