LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said timely general elections is the need of the hour.

“The PML-N wants stability of democratic system and postponement of general elections is unacceptable. Change should come through ballot and not bullet and the fresh mandate is a crying need at present to steer the country out of crises,” the chief minister said while talking to the leader of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees Pakistan, (MJAH) Senator Prof Sajid Mir at Model Town, Wednesday.

Matters of mutual interest and overall political situation of the country was discussed on the occasion. There was a consensus of opinion between the two leaders that general elections should be held in time and in a transparent manner. MJAH Secretary General, Hafiz Abdul Karim was also present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that the inefficient rulers have not taken any practical step towards elimination of terrorism, corruption, loadshedding, unemployment and poverty. He said that Pakistan is passing through the most critical time of its history as the PPP-led government has badly failed on every front. He said that the political leadership will have to adopt a national policy for steering the country out of crisis. He said that incompetent rulers have defamed democracy in the name of reconciliation and now they have been exposed to the nation which is anxiously waiting for the fresh elections. He said that it is hoped that through the power of vote, the masses will bring forward an honest, committed and public-spirited leadership which would solve the problems of the country. He said that if the grievances of the people are not redressed the country will plunge into anarchy and chaos.  He said that the day of accountability of such elements which use power to safeguard their personal interests is very near.
