ISLAMABAD - Pakistan go down fighting 2-1 against UAE in the semi-final of Qatar Asian Tennis U-14 Team Cup Championship, said Kamran Khalil, captain/head coach of team revealed on Wednesday while talking to this scribe  from Doha, Qatar.

Kamran said that UAE No. 1 Aljanai gave no chance to Nofil Kaleem to settle down. Experienced Aljanai won the first set 6-3. Nofil tried to stage comeback but Aljanai did not allow Nofil to settle down. Aljanai won the second set with the same margin of 6-3, thus giving UAE 1-0 lead.

In the second match Dower face Ferris but the former was comprehensively beaten in the first set by 6-2. Dower came back strongly to win the second set 6-1 and continued his domination in the deciding set and went on to win by 6-0 to keep Pakistan hopes alive.

The fate of the semi-final was decided on doubles match.

Dower/Abdal took commanding 4-0 lead in the first set but UAE pair bounced back to win the first set 7-5. In the second set Dower/Abdal were trailing 5-1 but they made a great escape and won the next 6 games to take the set 7-5 and match was left to be decided in the third and final set.

Third set was a classic example of sheer power and aggression shown by both teams, but it was UAE pair that finally prevailed and took the set 6-3 to win semi-final 2-1.

UAE will face top seed Iran in the final. Iran beat Saudi Arabia in the second semi-final.

Pakistani boys played exceptional well throughout the championship but inexperience and lack of exposure was the prove fatal for them. Pakistan will clash Saudi Arabia for the third place play offs today.
