The Shergarh Police, despite registration of a case, have been dragging its heels over the arrest of an accused who sexually assaulted a five-year-old girl, although a week and half have lapsed. The accused is at large and it seems he has been enjoying immunity from the law of the land.
As per details, Shabir Hussain, a resident of Bhutta Muhabbat, told the media that his five-year-old daughter Zunaira Bibi was picking potatoes in the field along with other children of the village when she was picked up by one Abdul Ghafoor alias Phoori of the same village. The accused took the minor girl to the sugarcane crop in an attempt to rape her. He was undressing the girl when Amdad alias Boota and Sajid Hussain working nearby heard the hue and cry of the girl and reached the spot upon which the accused ran away from the scene. He said though the police had registered a case against under section 376/511 of the Pakistan Penal Code but was dillydallying in further action against the accused. He said that he had visited the police station several times after the registration of FIR for arrest and investigation of the accused but the police were not ready to extend any cooperation to him. He appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister, the Sahiwal RPO and the Okara DPO to take notice of the matter and bring the culprit to justice.
