LAHORE - PTI leader Muhammad Sarwar Chaudhry says after the local elections development funds should be given to the local representatives, not the MNAs and MPAs.

Addressing a seminar at the HNPIP yesterday, he said carrying out development works was the job of the councillors, not assembly members. He regretted that the MPs had become so accustomed to using the development funds that they were not willing to give the local councilors their due right.

He promised that the PTI would reform the system of local government and would not give funds to MPs. HNPIP Director Absar Abul Ali, provincial parliamentary secretary Abdur Razzaq Dhilon, PPP leader Barrister Amir Hasan, senior journalists Taseer Mustafa and Mian Saifur Rehman were also among the speakers. Chaudhry Sarwar was critical of the prevailing political system. According to him, a poor man could not even think of contesting elections.

He said the government had failed to solve people’s problems and more than a million people were dying in Punjab alone because of unclean drinking water.
