ISLAMABAD - The National Basketball Championship 2015 will start today (Sunday) here at Pakistan Sports Complex, Hamidi Hall. Top eight teams including defending champions Army will vie for the top honours in the five-day mega event. Talking to The Nation, tournament organising secretary Imtiaz Rafi Butt said: “The event is being organised by Rawalpindi District Basketball Association (RDBA) in collaboration with District Sports Department Rawalpindi (DSDR) on the special directives of DCO Rawalpindi Sajid Zafar Dall. The event will be played on single league basis. Top two teams from each pool will play the semi-finals and the final will be held on December 31.”

The grand opening ceremony will be held today (Sunday) at 3pm which will be graced by, Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBBF) secretary Khalid Basheer, Shah Manzar Fareed, Abdul Waheed Babar, Dr Aouj Zahoor, DDG Facilities PSB Agha Amjedullah, Assistant Director hostels Malik Imtiaz Hussain and others, he added.

Teams of Army, Wapda, PAF and POF were placed in Pool A, while PAF, Wapda B, Hazara and Lahore were placed in Pool B. MPA Raja M Hanif will grace the final as chief guest and distribute prizes among the teams and players.
