ISLAMABAD - Paying homage to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on her 8th martyrdom anniversary, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari said that they all pledge to uphold constitutionalism, democracy and human rights on this day.

“Today on the 8th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto we pay homage to her prophetic vision and commitment to the ideals of constitutionalism, democracy and human rights. We also salute her and all those who laid down their lives in fighting for these values,” Zardari said in his message on the day.

“Let us on this day reiterate that we will neither allow trampling of the constitutional principles nor let the fanatics destroy the state and society behind the façade of religion,” he said in a message on the eve of Benazir Bhutto’s anniversary.

“On this day we also condemn the dictatorial mindset that invaded recently the Sindh province in the name of law & order in violation of all constitutional norms and principles,” he further said.

“We also condemn the barbarians, the militants and extremists seeking to take over the state and install what they call caliphate. Their agenda is no different from that of Daesh (ISSI) in Iraq and Syria, Al –Shabbab in Kenya and Boko Haram in Nigeria.”

“The PPP wishes to state categorically that it will not permit the militants to succeed in their designs,” the former President said adding that with the help of the workers and the people the PPP will uphold constitutionalism on the one hand and reject militants and extremists on the other.

“Today we also remember our martyrs who have laid their lives fighting extremists and in upholding democracy, constitutionalism and rule of law. If militants have not succeeded in their designs it is because of their sacrifices; we salute them all,” he said.

“We also pay homage to those who suffered exile, imprisonment and execution in fighting dictatorship,” he further said.
