KARACHI - The law enforcement agencies claimed to have arrested at least eight suspects allegedly involved in extortion activities and street crimes, here on Tuesday.

The three suspects allegedly involved in extortion activities arrested by police were identified as Khalid alias Ustad, Daniyal alias Bona and Riaz Ahmed alias Raju. They were arrested during a raid conducted by a special team constituted about to probe an extortion call and threats to the local restaurant owner in Garden area.

Their arrests were disclosed during a press conference held by District City SSP Adeel Chandio. According to SSP Chandio, the suspects arrested were involved in an extortion case registered at Garden police station, adding that the suspects arrested had demanded Rs2 million extortion money from a person namely Shezi. The officer said that they first made an extortion call and then also attacked the complainant’s restaurant by resorting firing.  SSP Chandio further said that a special team was formed about to probe a case and the police probe a case within 12 days by arresting the extortionists who belong to Lyari. The police also claim to have recovered arms and ammunitions from their possession.

Separately, Sharae Faisal police also claimed to have busted a gang of street criminals. The suspects arrested were identified as Noman, Yamin, Shakir, Bilal and Saleh. Their arrests were disclosed during a press conference held by ASP Hamza Aman during a press conference.  According to ASP Aman, the gang busted in comprised on at least 30 persons while eight cases are registered against them. The suspects were involved in snatching motorcycles from the citizens. The cases against them were registered while further investigation was underway.
