rawalpindi0-The police have arrested three out of four alleged car lifters who escaped from police custody while breaking the lockup and injuring two cops on December 23, sources said on Tuesday.

The police also seized weapons and a stolen vehicle from possession of the re-arrested alleged car lifters, they said.

Two separate cases have also been registered against the active members of intra-provincial auto-theft gang. However, the fourth car lifter is still at large while the police are making efforts to arrest him again, the sources added.

The sources said that Regional Police Officer Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja while taking notice of escaping of four car lifters from custody of the officials of Police Station Attock Khurd formed a special team under supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Hazro Raja Fayyaz, tasked to apprehend the car lifters.

They said that the DSP Raja Fayyaz placed special pickets on all the entry and exit points of the area besides instructing the police to check vehicles and persons. In the meanwhile, Rescue 15 service of the police received a call from one Zamir Hussain, from Hazro, that four robbers had intercepted him on gunpoint at Haji Shah Dam Road. They said that the complainant further told the Rescue 15 that the armed men snatched his van, mobile phone, cash and service card on gun point and fled towards Haji Shah Road.

Giving quick response, the Rescue 15 alerted the local police which already were on red alert on the special pickets, the sources said. The police managed to stop the snatched vehicle at Romia Chowk and held the three car lifters. The arrested car lifters were identified as Sajid Ali, Waqas and Mohsin Zada. However, the fourth car lifter Hayyat Ullah Khan managed to escape while taking advantage of darkness, they said. Three pistols and bullets were also recovered from possession of the accused.

The DSP Raja Fayyaz, when contacted, confirmed that the police had nabbed three out of the four car lifters who had fled from Police Picket Jaba after breaking the lockup. He said that two separate cases were registered against them. The police are looking for the fourth fleeing car lifter, he said. On a query, the DSP said that the car lifters had earlier hid the weapons in a nearby forest before been arrested by the police in start of December. “They took weapons from the secret place after escaping from police picket and snatched a vehicle to leave Attock for their dens in KP,” he said.

Further investigation is under way during which huge revelations are being expected, he said.

It may be noted that DPO Atttock Ibadat Nisar had suspended and registered cases against nine cops including SHO Attock Khurd after the car lifters escaped from the police custody.
