Aqeel faces Muzammil in National Ranking Tennis final

LAHORE   -  Top seed Aqeel Khan will face Muzammil Murtaza in 6th Begum Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Tournament 2020 men’s singles final after both registered convincing victories in the semifinals played at the PTF Complex, Islamabad on Saturday. 

According to PTF spokesman, in the first semifinal, Muzammil Murtaza came from one game behind to overcome spirited Shahzad Khan with a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 while the second semifinal saw Aqeel Khan outscored Muhammad Abid 6-4, 6-3 to book final berth against Muzammil. 

National ladies champion Ushna Suhail will vie against former No 1 Sarah Mahboob in the ladies singles final as they recorded comprehensive triumphs in the semifinals. In the first semifinal, Sarah Mahboob edged out Hania Navaid 7-5, 6-0 while Ushna Suhail brushed aside Esha Jawad 6-2, 6-0 in a one-sided affair to set final clash against Sarah. 

In the boys U-18, Muhammad Shoaib beat Aqib Hayat 6-2, 6-1 while in boys U-16 doubles, Hamid Israr/Sami Zeb beat Farman Shakeel/Nalain Abbas 5-3, 5-3, Mahatir Muhammad/Haseesh Kumar beat M Talha Khan/M Huzaifa Khan 4-1, 4-0. In boys U-14 singles, Bilal Asim beat Hussnain Ali Rizwan 4-2, 4-1, Hamid Israr beat Haider Ali Rizwan 4-2, 4-2, Hamid Israr beat Bilal Asim 4-1, 4-2. 

In girls U-14 singles, Sheeza Sajid beat Fatima Ali Raja 4-2, 4-0, Amna Ali Qayum beat Natalia Zaman 4-2, 5-4(11). In boys/girls U-12, Hamza Roman beat Ehtisham Hamayun 5-4(6), 4-2, Haniya Minhas beat Hamza Ali Rizwan 1-4, 4-2, 4-2, Hamza Roman beat Haniya Minhas 4-2,4-2. 

In boys/girls U-10, M Hassan Usman beat Zohaib Afzal 4-2, 2-4, 5-3, Ismail Aftab beat Hamad Shah 4-1, 4-1, M Hassan Usman beat Ismail Aftab 4-2, 4-0. In seniors 45 plus doubles, Mehmood Khan/Azeem Khan beat Wakeel Khan/Amjad Nasir 6-3, 6-1, Rashid Malik (ZTBL)/Fayyaz Khan beat Gul/Shakeel 4-6, 6-3(10-3). The finals of men’s singles and ladies’ singles will be held on Sunday.
