Meaningless, of course

Those who believe that Hindus would throw anything in our bowl if we go begging are nonbelievers, not Muslims. The more we beg for the talks, the more rigid they would be. India would never move an inch on the dispute of Kashmir until & unless we force it to move. If the Brahmins have not been able to own and adopt half the population of their co-religioniststhey still degrade humans on the basis of their caste and creed how can you expect them treat the Muslims fairly and equally? The imperative lesson we must learn is that the status quo in respective positions has to be, and should be maintained without anything being given from our side until the enemy is well and truly worn out or we are in a position of strength. Then, will be the proper time to talk and dictate. That was the way China got back Macau and Hong Kong and sooner rather than later would be able to get back Taiwan too. And as far as the compulsions of diplomacy are concerned, there is no harm in harping on the tune of 'dialogue-dailoguejust as India does. The waves upon waves of Indian delegations of dancers and drummers of various ilk are a sort of diplomatic gimmick. We can coexist only in a kind of equilibrium, like the US & Soviet Russia had once. -AFTAB ALAM, Swat, February 25.
