Five mediamen injured as two party groups scuffle

GUJRANWALA - Five local journalists sustained injuries in fisticuffs between two groups of the PTI during polling for intra-party elections here in Gujranwala on Tuesday.
Reportedly, Rana Naeem group and Unity group, contesting for different slots, started blaming each others in the morning soon after the commencement of polling. They were accusing each other of casting fake votes, purchase of CNIC and voter’s sympathies for just Rs2,000 outside the polling station which sparked scuffle between the supporters of both the groups. The scuffle was ensued by aerial firing from both the groups. Meanwhile, in attempt to stop the media coverage, the workers of warring groups attacked cameramen of different local channels and beat them severely. They broke cameras of while wrist of a cameraman was also fractured during the assault. The police reached the scene after the incident and registered a complaint on behalf of the injured journalists.
Meanwhile, former PTI Gujranwala General Secretary Anjum Iqbal Warraich told journalists that PTI Chairman Imran Khan had taken serious notice of the incident and cancelled the membership of Rana Naeemur Rehman and Khalid Aziz Lone.
