LAHORE – PML-N Spokesman Pervaiz Rashid on Tuesday came down hard on PPP’s Sharjeel Memon for his remarks about terrorism in Punjab.

“Memon should inform us as to why the Sindh government has issued arm licences to terrorists, and when will Sharjeel Memon come to collect those culprits who have been arrested by the Punjab government,” the spokesman said.

Commenting upon the statement of Sharjeel Memon, Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that Sharjeel Memon should provide the list containing names of the accused and he would personally hand them over to Sharjeel Memon.

He said that the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had never forgiven any culprit, but Sharjeel Memon must inform as to when he would ensure the accountability of those who helped law-breakers flee the country.

Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that the record bears witness that Punjab government had always taken vigorous action against terrorist organisations and arrested a number of accused, whereas PPP had not only provided patronage to the sectarian organisations, but also awarded ministries to persons belonging to such outfits. He said that it was a matter of record that PPP struck an agreement with Maulana Azam Tariq, which also bears the signatures of Asif Ali Zardari. Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that, instead of leveling baseless allegations against the Punjab government, Sharjeel Memon should concentrate on improving the performance of government of Sindh, where target-killings were the order of the day and in which dozens of lives were being lost.

In his statement, MNA Pervaiz Malik said that Rehman Malik cannot mislead the nation by leveling allegations against PML-N of having relations with sectarian organisations, neither could he evade blame for failure in protecting life and property of the people.

He said that the PML-N had no contacts with terrorists but Rehman Malik did and he keeps giving prior information regarding explosions but does not arrest the saboteurs.  Commenting on the statement of Rehman Malik, Pervaiz Malik said that Rehman Malik’s disappearance from the scene at the time of attack on Benazir Bhutto Shaheed was highly meaningful and the nation asks him as to why did he go to Bilawal House instead of protecting and ensuring security of Benazir Bhutto. He said disappearance of Rehman Malik at the time of martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto was a secret which would ultimately be revealed by the time. He further said that when leaders of PPP were escaping from the scene, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif reached Rawalpindi hospital to inquire about Benazir Bhutto, putting his own life at serious risk.

Pervaiz Malik said that record of interior ministry bears witness that federal Interior Ministry which was under the control of Rehman Malik issued licenses of lethal weapons to the leaders of the banned organisations. He said that instead of wasting his time on giving proves of contacts of Pakistan Muslim League-N with banned organisations, Rehman Malik should give details to the media regarding issuance of arm licenses by federal and the governments of Sindh and Balochistan to the leaders of these organisations so that the real face of PPP and Rehman Malik could be unmasked.
