ISLAMABAD - Member National Assembly M Hanif Abbasi inaugurated the newly constructed Shahbaz Sharif Sports Complex on Tuesday.

The Shahbaz Sharif Sports Complex was constructed at Double Road, near Rawalpindi Arts Council, which had the capacity of holding table tennis, badminton and other indoor games and is highly appreciated by the sporting circles of twin cities.

While talking to The Nation Hanif Abbasi said: “I am grateful to my leader Mian Shahbaz for his kindness, as he has sanctioned hefty amounts for the promotion of sports in the region.”

“We have managed to construct a hockey stadium at Muslim High School ground which is named after Olympian Shahnaz Shaikh and I would soon meet Punjab CM and will try to get sanction a suitable amount to lay down Astroturf at the venue, which would help a great deal to the players to adopt to international facilities at their backyard.”

Abbasi also announced to start a women academy at the hockey stadium soon, where Shahnaz would impart training and teach the school and college going girls about the game’s basics.

He said, that he with the active help of DCO Rawalpindi Saqib Zafar managed to bring 14 playgrounds in working condition, which were completely destroyed. He said he would also discuss the proposal of laying down mats at mats worth Rs 25 million at the Shahbaz Sharif Sports Complex with the Punjab CM.

He said the Shahbaz Sharif Sports Complex was equipped with latest gym and exercising machines worth Rs2.1 million to provide players with a chance of working on their physical fitness too. “Rawalpindi women team finished runners up in the national championship and looking at their immense talent, I have decided to give top priority to women cricket. To achieve this goal, a separate cricket ground would be constructed at Government Viqar-un-Nisa College and girls would soon have their own cricket ground, where they would sharpen their skills,” Abbasi concluded.
