LAHORE: Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik of the Lahore High Court Wednesday directed the city police chief not to conduct raids on hotels and guest houses without fulfilling legal requirements.

Khalid Mateen and others filed the petition and submitted that police conducted raids on hotels and arrested innocent citizens on the pretext of harboring proclaimed offenders. They said police had no right to conduct raid any private place without prior permission of magistrate concerned and issuance of arrest warrants.

The petitioner said police violated the sanctity of four-walls and blackmailed innocent couples. They asked the court to restrain police from conducting raids on hotels and guest houses without obtaining prior judicial orders.

However, police official submitted an affidavit in the court and stated that no raid would be conducted in future without obtaining search warrants from the competent court of law.

After the assurance from police, the court disposed of the petition.
