LAHORE-  Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that Chinese leadership opened up new avenues of economic prosperity for Pakistan in order to strengthen deep-rooted and lasting friendship.

He said that besides assisting in overcoming energy crisis, Chinese investment would help create vast job opportunities and economic development. He said that the people of Pakistan appreciate the spirit of sincere friendship and cooperation expressed by China. He further said that the Pakistani leadership would emulate the example of China and spare no effort for bringing about a development revolution in the country.

Talking to Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong who met him in Islamabad on Wednesday, the CM said that the Chinese political leadership and people are very sincere to Pakistan. He said that a number of mega projects have been completed in Pakistan with the Chinese cooperation. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, new projects are being executed speedily for further cementing bilateral relations.

Shahbaz said that regular high-level meetings between leaders of both countries are ushering in a new era of Pak-China friendship and cooperation. He said that China has expressed deep interest in investment in Punjab, and the provincial government is also extending maximum facilities to the Chinese investors in Pakistan. He said that in order to resolve energy crisis, new projects are being launched with the financial and technical assistance of China which will result in substantial increase in electricity production in Pakistan.

While discussing matters of mutual interest with the Chinese Ambassador, Shahbaz thanked the Chinese leadership for according the warm welcome and showing keen interest in investment in Pakistan during his visit to China. He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is striving for development in every sector and Chinese cooperation in energy and transport sectors would help in implementation of new projects.

The Chinese Ambassador thanked Shahbaz for the sentiments of goodwill on the part of Pakistan and assured of all-out cooperation on behalf of China for implementation of the projects aimed at national development and prosperity.

GERMAN ENVOY CALLS ON CM

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the energy crisis affected national economy as well as all other sectors of life. He said that the ongoing energy crisis needed to be resolved for the promotion of business activities and economic stability. He said that the government is sincerely endeavouring to cope with the energy crisis. He said this while talking to German Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Cyrill Nunn who met him. Matters of mutual interest as well cooperation in different sectors including energy were discussed on the occasion.

The CM said there are friendly relations between the both countries. “Germany is a big trading partner of Pakistan; however, there is a need to further increase the volume of trade between them,” he opined. He said that Germany could increase bilateral cooperation in energy and other sectors. He said that Germany has expertise in solar energy and the Punjab government wanted to benefit from it.

Shahbaz said that the government has taken effective measures for providing complete protection to foreign investors in Punjab.

He assured that German investors as well as their capital would be extended full protection in the province.

Dr. Cyrill Nunn said there is a vast scope of bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Germany and promotion of trade relations could help strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
