Army Remounts, Dollar East enter Punjab Cup final

LAHORE - Army Remounts and Dollar East/Master Paints made their way to the historical Borjan Punjab Polo Cup 2016 main finals while Master Paints/Habib Metro and Barry’s will contest in the subsidiary final.
In the first match of the day, Barry’s defeated Al-Khan/Guard Group 7-6 after a tough battle. High-flying Pedro Zacharias was hero of the day with his superb seven goals tally for Barry’s while for the losing side, Max Charlton hammered four goals and Shah Qubilai Alam and Taimur Ali Malik hit one goal each. Pedro started the closely-contested match on a high note scoring first goal of the match which was later equalised by Shah Qubilai through a field goal. Pedro once again provided 2-1 lead to Barry’s but this time, Max Charlton leveled the score at 2-2. Max started the second chukker well converting a 40-yard penalty hit successfully which gave Al-Khan/Guard Group 3-2 lead. But Pedro once again leveled the score at 3-3 and then provided 4-3 lead to his team through a field goal.
In the third chukker, Pedro contributed another to make it 5-3. Al-Khan/Guard Group players then bounced back brilliantly and thrashed two back-to-back goals to draw the blood 5-5. Taimur Ali Malik and Max were goal scorers. Pedro continued his great form in the fourth and final chukker and produced a brace to give his team unbeatable 7-5 lead. Max though converted a goal for his team but it couldn’t save his team from defeat. In the second match of the day, the heroics of Major Omer Minhas and George Meyrick helped Army Remounts defeat Learning Alliance 5-4. The score was level at 4-4 when the fourth chukker finished and match was then decided in fifth chukker where Major Omer hammered a goal to steer his team to a well-deserving win. George Meyrick of Army Remounts opened first chukker with his field goal for while Major General Isfandiyar Pataudi hit another to provide Army 2-0 lead.
But then Learning Alliance players played exceptional polo as Max Charlton, who was playing in place of injured Matias Vial Perez, hammered two back-to-back goals and Adnan Jalil one to finish the second chukker having 3-2 lead.
In the third chukker, Max hit another goal to strengthen Learning Alliance lead 4-2 which was reduced 4-3 by George. Major Omer Minhas scored a lone goal in the fourth and last chukker to level the score at 4-4. No further goal was scored by both the teams as the chukker ended at 4-4. In the fifth chukker, Major Omer converted a fabulous field goal to guide his team to an awe-inspiring win. In the third and final thrilling contest of the day, half-goal handicap advantage helped Dollar East/Master Paints beat Master Paints/Habib Metro 6-½-6. Juan Cruz Losada and Hamza Mawaz Khan scored three goals each for the winners while high-flying Pedro Guiterrez pumped in all the six goals but his heroics failed to save Master Paints/Habib Metro from facing the defeat.

With this luck win, Dollar East/Master Paints got an opportunity to play the main final of the historical Punjab Polo Cup which was first played in 1886.
