Federal Govt asked to grant Rs 500 m to RCB to meet water shortage

RAWALPINDI: Member Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) Hafiz Hussain Ahmed has urged the Federal Government to grant Rs 500 million to RCB to cop with water shortage in its areas.

Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, who is also a former Vice President of RCB, said the cantonment areas of the garrison city had been facing acute shortage of water as they were not getting their due share from Khanpur Dam.

During the summer season, the water problem would be further compounded with enhanced use of the commodity, he added.

Hafiz Hussain said installation of some 50 tube-wells along with over 100 filtration plants were required to meet clean drinking water needs of the area. About Rs 500 million was required for the purpose while the RCB had been facing financial problems.

He asked the Ministry of Defence to provide the required funds to the RCB so that the residents of cantonment areas should not experience scarcity of water during the summer.
