There is an acute shortage of lecturers in most of the government boys and girls degree colleges across Sialkot district, amid the tall claims of education promotion.
Under this situation the students are at the losing and suffering great ordeal.
Several colleges lack even heads (principals) and junior lecturers are running the administration by “enjoying” additional charge of the principal.
The situation has been going from bad to worse with every passing day due to the alleged apathy and indifference of the local elected representatives. The resident are of the view that it seems the lawmakers least bother to provide quality education to the younger generation. They regretted that failure to ensure early appointments against the vacant posts of lecturers, assistant professors and even the posts of the principals reflects the inefficiency and indifference of the lawmakers.
Local social, business, religious, educational and political circles have expressed grave concern over the critical situation, urging the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take serious notice and ensure early appointments of lecturers in the colleges in the larger interest of local students.
According to officials of the Sialkot education department (colleges), there are a total 15 government girls degree colleges in Sialkot district, where 150 seats of lecturer/teachers have been lying vacant since long. The statistics show that only 100 teachers are working against the sanctioned 250 posts in these girls colleges.
Similarly, there are a total of 12 government boys degree colleges in the district, where 90 posts of the teachers/lecturers have been lying vacant since long while only 130 teachers are working against the total 220 sanctioned posts in these colleges.
In Daska, the post of principal Govt Boys Degree College has been lying vacant for the last six months following the retirement of its principal.
The post of principal Govt College of Commerce (Boys) Pasrur has been lying vacant for the last one year.
While, four girls college - Govt Girls Degree Colleges Sambrial, Bhopalwala, Dhalleywali-Head Marala and Chobara are also running with principals for the last two years.
As many as 700 students are on roll in Govt Girls Degree College Chobara, where there is no principal and no regular teachers for these students.
There is no lecturer of Economics in Govt Boys Degree College Pasrur, as all the Economics’ teachers have got themselves transferred to other colleges.
As many as, 15 seats of different subjects’ lecturers have been lying vacant at Govt Postgraduate College for Women Daska, where 14 teachers are working against the total 29 sanctioned posts of lecturers.
On the other hand, 15 seats of lecturers have been lying vacant at Govt Girls Degree College Qila Kalarwala, where only one teacher is working against the total 16 sanctioned posts of teachers.
Eight seats of teachers have been lying vacant at Govt Nawaz Sharif Girls Degree College, where 10 teachers are working against the total 18 sanctioned posts.
Seven seats of lecturers have been lying vacant at Govt College for Women Hajipura-Sialkot, where 11 teachers are working against total 18 sanctioned posts of teachers.
Five seats of teachers each have been lying vacant in Government Colleges for Women at Sambrial and Pasrur.
Eleven seats of teachers out of total 16 sanctioned posts have been lying vacant at Govt Degree College for Women, Bhopalwala.
12 seats of teachers out of total 16 sanctioned seats have been lying vacant at Govt Girls Degree College Kapoorwali. Nine seats of teachers are vacant at Govt Girls Degree College Chawinda. As many as 13 seats of teachers out of total 16 sanctioned posts of teachers have been lying vacant at Govt Girls Degree College Jaamkey Cheema-Daska, 15 seats of teachers/lectures have been lying vacant out of total 20 sanctioned posts of teachers at Govt Girls Degree College Sokan Wind and 13 seats of teachers/lectures of different subjects have been lying vacant in Govt Fatima Jinnah Girls Degree College Dhalleywali-Head Marala against total 16 sanctioned posts of teachers.
Four seats of lectures at Govt Murray College Sialkot, seven seats of lecturers at Govt Jinnah Islamia Boys Degree College Sialkot,12 seats of different subjects’ lecturers at Govt Boys Degree College Daska, 11 seats at Govt Boys Degree College Pasrur, 14 seats of teachers in Govt Islamia Boys Degree College Sambrial, 11 seats of teachers at Govt Islamia Inter-Boys College Mitraanwali, 12 seats of teachers at Govt Boys Degree College Chawinda, seven seats of teachers at Govt Postgraduate Boys College of Commerce Sialkot and all five seats of teachers have been lying vacant at Govt Islamia College Sialkot since long.
When contacted, officials concerned of the Education Department (Colleges) said that they have already brought this critical situation into the notice of the high-ups for early appointments against the vacant posts. “However, no concrete steps could be taken so far for the resolution of the situation,” they claimed.
