Of lovable friends & hateful dogs

Amina Jilani in her column in The Nation of January 24 has once again criticized the people "who talk against America but queue up for visas and send their children to American universities". Why can't one criticise the US administration and yet like America The Beautiful for is friendly people? Does wanting to go to America means one has to approve of the immoral US occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq too? Why does it have to be "love me, love my dog"? Tony Blair says even if he knew there were no WMDs in I Iraq, it was all right to invade Iraq. Does one have to accept that if one were to cherish the happy memories of the many visits to England and happy times one has had with many friends there? -KHURSHID ANWER, Lahore, January 24
