9 accused of Shershah Market carnage released

KARACHI - Administrative Judge of Anti-Terrorism Court, Justice Sajjad Ali Shah of Sindh High Court, Wednesday released nine accused who surrendered themselves to the police in Shershah Market carnage. According to reports, nine out of seventeen surrendered themselves and confessed to have committed the crime on the direction of Lyari gangster Noor Muhammad alias Baba Ladla. The suspects included Muhammad Tufail, Abid Ali, Asghar Ali, Tehseen, Abdul Rasheed, Johar Sher Muhammad, Muhammad Aijaz, Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Akbar surrendered to police on January 12, 2011. According to police, as many as 13 people were killed and many others injured on October 19, 2010 when armed persons fired at shopkeepers. Four suspects - Lal Muhammad Magsi, Shafi Muhammad, Aslam Pervez and Nawaz Ali - were already arrested in this case while nine of them were later reached police station and three main accused including Ladla remain absconder. Complainant Anees, who is also brother of one deceased shopkeeper, could not identify them though he had nominated the names of accused persons in the FIR. Justice Sajjad Ali Shah ordered to release them due to lack of evidence.
