LAHORE Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday adjourned further hearing of the bail petitions moved by six persons, including Major (r) Habibullah Warraich, who are accused of embezzling billions of rupees of National Insurance Corporation limited (NICL) to February 2. The judge adjourned the case granting the request made by the FIA counsel for time to submit reply to the petition. Habibullah Warraich, also former defence minister, his son Mohsin Warraich, Muhammad Maalick, manager of a company owned by Ch. Moonis Elahi, are accused of misappropriating NICLs funds on account of land purchase. The accused in their petitions plead that the investigating agency failed to produce any direct evidence against them and that it was delaying proceedings before trial court on the one pretext or the other to make them suffer in custody. They said that they were ready to deposit surety bonds to the satisfaction of the trial court if the court allowed them bail. Now the court will proceed with the petition on February 2.
