SIALKOT - Gujranwala Regional Police Officer Capt (r) Muhammad Ameen has said that good behaviour of policemen towards the complainants could help redress their grievances, stressing the need for bridging the police-public gulf.

Addressing an open court held at Nawaz Sharif Park, Pasrur, he said that the police should not abuse the power and utilise all energy and resources to ensure speedy and smooth justice. The police would not give in to any pressure in this regard, he said and added that active mutual cooperation between the police and the public was vital for curbing the crime.

The RPO stressed the need for promoting tolerance, positive thoughts and education for bringing positive change to the society, saying that the illiteracy and ignorance are the biggest enemies of the society. These evils create hurdles in the smooth provision of justice, he added. He revealed that that the purpose of holding open courts was to address the public grievances. He also urged the participants to submit complaints for betterment of the society through positive criticism, adding that criticism should be constructive.

He said that the implication of innocent people in fake cases is a great injustice so the people should avoid implicating the innocent and non-guilty people in the fake cases. He said that the elimination of corruption and touts was the top priority of the police. He asked the police officials to adopt deal with the complainants with morality and good attitude and ensure early justice. He said that there was no doubt that the good attitude of police could be helpful in minimising the tension of oppressed people.

He said that in the present scenario, early restoration of public confidence in the police was direly needed. The RPO pledged to adopt all the positive steps for restoring the confidence of public in the police, besides, ensuring early implementation of police-public friendly policies.

He said it would be helpful for developing healthy relationship and mutual confidence between police and public. He said that all the police stations would be made model ones, declaring the adoption of good moral ethics and police code of conduct. He revealed that the development in mutual co-operation between police and public was vital for curbing crime and establishing durable peace in the society. He added that to achieve this goal, the police should go ahead with the friendly hands towards the public for ensuring easy and smooth provision of justice. He said it was need of hour to minimise the distances through enhancing professional capabilities of the police force.

He said that the adequate efforts were being made to purge the police department of black sheep, besides ensuring re-building of the public confidence. He warned that the corrupt and inefficient police officials would be brought to task. The RPO pledged to adopt all the positive steps in this regard. Sialkot DPO Afzal Ahmed Kausar, SP (Investigation) Sialkot Asad Sarfraz Khan, DSP Moeen Ashraf Buttar, senior member of Sialkot District Peace Committee Zafar Malik, traders, lawyers and local notables were also present.
