Mandi Bahauddin - Farmers from different villages across the district have vowed to demonstrate unity for the protection of their rights and avoid exploitation.

The farmers met here at Sohawa Jamlani village on Friday as the gathering was presided over by Shahid Gondal Advocate. Briefing the media persons after the meeting, he said they had decided to form an organisation with name of "Kisan Ithad".

In this respect, a farmers convention would be held in the last quarter of February. He said there was no organisation in the district that truly represent the farmers and fight for their rights. He said there was fake organisation namely Kisan Board which is extension of Jamaat-e-Islami, they said.

Its office-bearers are not elected and they serve as tools of district administration and industrialists for their own interests, they said. They have never practically worked for defending the rights of farmers. He said due to corrupt practices of revenue departments and influence of industrialists, traders and sugar mills, the farming community was facing difficult situation.

“Patwari, policeman even now staff of newly set-up computerized land record centres are not functioning transparently. For obtaining copies of record of right or mutation, one has to spend the whole day waiting for ones turn. To get the entries in revenue records corrected or updated, one has to visit several offices for years,” he said. He added farmers would now unite on one platform and fight for their rights. No one would be allowed to blackmail them and falsely implicate them in litigation and criminal cases. Corrupt officials will be pointed out and every possible effort will be made to get them punished,
