Rawalpindi-Police have arrested a cop for his alleged involvement in kidnapping and raping a college girl at Mughal Colony, Sukho, sources informed on Friday.

The accused was identified as Rahil Meer, a constable in the Punjab police, who was on run after additional and session judge cancelled his interim bail.

Jatli police registered a case against four accused, including Rahil Meer, his wife Sadia Rahil, brother Nabil Meer and a friend Moheen Akhter on charges of kidnapping a 19-year-old girl (JZ) from Mughal Colony, Sukho on November 25, 2017. Moheen Akhter was arrested who during interrogation revealed that he took the girl to a flat with her own consent since they had developed friendship on phone.   

According to sources, a police team headed by Sub Inspector Muhammad Akram Niazi and Constable Asif Mehmood carried out raid on the residence of accused Rahil Meer and held him. Police shifted the accused to Police Post Doltala for further investigation. They said police would produce the accused before the court for obtaining his physical remand today (Saturday). Sources said that police would also conduct DNA of the accused to determine his role in the rape case.

Earlier, RPO Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja had ordered CPO Israr Ahmed Abbasi to investigate the matter himself. On this, CPO summoned the victim family and investigation officer SI M Akram Niazi and ordered him to arrest the fleeing accused.

M Akram Niazi, when contacted, confirmed arrest of the accused. He said two other accused, who had earlier been given a clean chit would also be again grilled on orders of CPO.
