Islamabad-The engineering fraternity has rejected the amendment made in the Capital Development Authority Ordinance permitting non-engineering cadres to be appointed as its chairman.

The federal cabinet on last Wednesday (January 17) has given approval to the amendment. According to it, Central Superior Service officers and other bureaucrats hailing from other cadres except engineering can be appointed as CDA chairman, vice chairman, and financial advisor.

Pointing out the issue, former Pakistan Engineering Council Chairman Syed Abdul Qadir Shah said it was a sheer violation of the rules and regulations and a great injustice to working engineers in CDA who spend almost more than three decades in the organisation but they cannot be appointed as its head.

He opined that the prime minister should have thought for hundred times before giving approval to the amendment and barring engineers from their legal rights as he himself and many others in the cabinet are engineers.

Abdul Qadir proposed the PEC present management to raise its voice against this decision and approach Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to review the amendment in the larger interest of the engineering community.

; otherwise a petition should be filed in the apex court to revert it constitutionally.

Besides it, he demanded the quarters concerned to post engineers as head of engineering organisations throughout the country.
