JIT records statements in Intizar murder case

KARACHI - The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) looking into the controversial killing of young Intizar Ahmed in a police shootout in the Defence Housing Authority recorded statements of ACLC SSP and others on Friday.

“In pursuance of the government of Sindh, home department, a JIT on FIR No. 16/2018 under Section 302 of Darakhshan police station on the killing of Intizar Ahmed, son of Ishtiaq Ahmed, has been constituted and [it] recorded statements of the accused. Policemen of ACLC remain in police custody. The JIT also recorded the statement of ACLC SSP Muqaddas Haider and eyewitness girl Madiha Kiyani at the CTD, Civil Lines. The joint team headed by CTD DIG Amir Farooqui and other officials of different security agencies took part in the investigation. The accused have recorded their statements to the JIT. The victim’s father, Ishtaiq Ahmed, also appeared before the JIT and recorded his statement,” says a press release.

CTD DIG Farooqui was appointed new investigation officer by Inspector General of Sindh Police Allah Dino Khowaja and District South Investigation SP Farooq Awan was transferred on the demand of victim’s family.

Sources privy to the matter said the decision to form a JIT was taken after Intizar’s family accused former Anti-Car Lifting Cell SSP Muqaddas Haider of involvement in the murder.

A senior police official privy to the investigation said it was a complete failure of the ACLC police, which was behind the killing of Intizar, adding that the footage of the crime scene as well as circumstantial evidence suggest that ACLC officials and personnel were trying to abduct Intizar and they killed him when he put up resistance.
