ISLAMABAD - Senior Advocate of Supreme Court Kamran Murtaza on Friday was elected as Vice-Chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council for the year 2018.
A contest between Murtaza, a candidate of Asma Group and Ch. Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan, a candidate of Hamid Khan Group was held for the slot of the PBC vice-chairman.
Murtaza secured 13 votes, while his opponent Khan secured nine votes. Attorney General for Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf was the returning officer of the election.
The PBC also elected Ghulam Shabbir Shar, a member from Sukkur, as chairman of its executive committee for the year 2018. He has replaced Hafeez-ur-Rehman Chaudhry after he resigned from the slot.
Murtaza said that he will continue to work to strengthen the PBC and promote democratic culture in the court.
He said that they would not accept anything, which will be in violation of the Constitution and the law.
