Mohmand Agency - The people visiting Agency Headquarters Hospital are facing numerous difficulties due to shortage of specialist doctors.

The residents of the area told The Nation on Friday that they have been facing a shortage of specialist doctors for the last couple years.

The blamed the local administration has left the poor patients and their attendants with no option but to hire vehicles and visit other agencies hospitals for treatment. For which they had to spend their hard earned money, they added.

A doctor on duty in the hospital told the Nation that there was no family accommodation facility for the doctors, adding that we are facing numerous problems here, such as power and water supply.

He said that the hospital needed a general surgeon, gynecologist, orthopedic surgeon, pediatrician and other specialists and technical staff to improve healthcare performance and meet the increasing demand of the patients,

The Mohmand tribesmen have asked the government to appoint specialist doctors in the Agency Headquarter Hospital, Ghallanai so that patients could be provided proper treatment. 

The tribesmen said that majority of the patients were referred to Peshawar hospitals for which people had to spend their money on travel and other arrangements.

They said that the government should immediately appoint specialist doctors at the hospital to facilitate the people.

Haji Behram Khan, a local resident, said that people have to move their patients to hospitals in Peshawar for even minor cases as there is no specialist doctor in the hospital.

He said that the government should install equipment in the Agency Headquarters hospital and appoints doctors to provide quality healthcare to the people in their region, adding that the government should also take action against those who didn’t come on time.

They also complained that the doctors often come late or sometimes even don’t come to their duties.

Khan said that no practical steps had been taken to solve the problem of a specialist doctor in the hospital, despite their repeated demands and contacts with the authorities concerned.

Ahmad Khan a resident of Tehsil Baizai Shandara is a far-flung and backward area as no health facilities told that the Ghallanai hospital was presenting a deserted look due to lack of paramedical staff and doctors, adding that they were compelled to move to private hospitals for treatment.

He added that their patients die while on the way, taking them to the Peshawar hospitals due to no health centres in their region.

He added that they have to transfer patients to Peshawar hospitals which are 54 kilometre from Agency Headquarter Ghallanai.
