ISLAMABAD - The captain of the national hockey team, Zeeshan Ashraf will be the flag-bearer of the Pakistan contingent at the opening ceremony of the 29th Olympics Games 2008, which will be held on August 8 in Beijing, China. Pakistan is participating in four disciplines including hockey, shooting, swimming and athletics. However, our players got wild card entries in three games except hockey. Pakistan claimed three gold medals in the Olympics hockey competitions in the past. Last time, Pakistan gained this honour in 1984 Las Angles Olympics beating West Germany 2-1 in the final. However, the top officials of the Pakistan Olympic Association, Pakistan Sports Board and sports federations will see off the 34-man green shirts contingent at Islamabad International Airport that will leave for Beijing on July 31 to take part in the Olympics Games 2008. A source inside the PSB said that the contingent, comprising 23 players and 11 officials, would visit China to represent Pakistan in the mega sports event of the world, 29th Olympics Games 2008, which would be held from August 8 to 24 in Beijing. "The national athletes will compete in the four games including hockey, swimming, athletics and shooting. A ceremony will also take place at the Pakistan Sports Complex before their departure to airport, "he added. " POA President Lt.
