LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has issued instructions to the administration that no compromise would be made on the quality and rates of atta and the joint teams of magistrates and police officers should take stern action against the elements involved in overcharging and the sale of substandard atta. He was presiding over a meeting at Chief Minister's Secretariat, here on Saturday, which reviewed supply, price and quality of atta. The chief minister directed administration, police and food department to ensure that 20 kg atta bag should be available to the consumers at the fixed rate of 375 rupees per bag. He said that flourmills, dealers and shopkeepers would not be allowed to take any arbitrary decision regarding price of atta. He directed to handover the lists obtained from secret sources of all such shopkeepers to the concerned DCOs, which have been found involved in selling atta at higher rates against the fixed price during the last two days. The Chief Minister directed Chief Secretary Punjab to form special teams comprising competent and hardworking magistrates and police officers to conduct joint raids at different places in all districts of the province to monitor price of atta as well as obtain samples for checking its quality. He further directed that services of reputed and reliable laboratories be acquired for checking the quality of atta and special teams should supervise the entire process of taking the samples of atta to laboratory and obtaining the results. He said that atta is a basic necessity and the sale of substandard atta is extreme dishonesty. He said that the elements involved in the sale of substandard atta and thus posing threat to human life should better be behind bars. He also issued instructions for sending the cases of the sale of sub standard atta to special courts.
