Friday’s violence swallows 10 lives in Karachi


KARACHI - At least ten people were killed in separate acts of violence in the metropolis here on Friday.
A woman namely Zubaida Bibi was killed and her 17-year-old daughter Sania wounded when gangsters sprayed bullets at Al-Falah Road in Lyari. Police said the incident took place when some unidentified gangsters were trying to kidnap a youth of Kutchi community. As the youth offered resistance, the area residents gathered there to rescue him. At this, the gangsters opened indiscriminate fire, killing passer-by Zubaida and her daughter.
A youth, associated with the MQM’s Karachi Mazafati Organising Committee, was shot dead near Kala Pull within the limits of Defence Police Station. The victim identified as Ghulam Rasool, 38, was on his way to home when two armed men riding a motorcycle shot him dead. His body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead.
Separately, body of a youth was found in Block-13 within the limits of Shara-e-Faisal Police Station. Police said that CNIC found from victim’s pocket revealed his identity as Mohammad Faizan, 28, son of Javiad Tariq and resident of Mehran Society, Malir.
Police officials said they have also found a chit from his body which stated “It is a gift for the MQM by ANP.” On early Thursday, a man was killed and two others were wounded when unidentified armed men riding on motorcycles targeted them at Rabia City apartments in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Police officials said the killing of Faizan might have been linked to the Thursday’s incident.
Meanwhile, an elderly man was shot dead near Ghausia Masjid in Orangi Town within the limits of Pirabad Police Station. The deceased was identified as Riffatullah and police officials said that motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.
A shop owner identified as Javed Ashraf was shot dead by armed man at MA Jinnah Road within the limits of Preedy Police Station. Police said the motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.
A shot dead body of a youth was found from a garbage dump in Manghopir. Police officials said the victim was shot multiple times; however, his body was moved to morgue for identification.
Similarly, another youth was found dead near Afghan Chowk within the limits of Gulshan-e-Maymar Police Station. Police said identity of the victim has yet to be ascertained; however, further investigation was underway.
Separately, a woman was killed near Baloch Colony flyover.
The victim’s body was taken to JPMC for autopsy. Police officials said the identity and nature of the incident has yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, a youth, whose identity is yet to be identified, was killed in an incident of firing near Qazzafi Chowk in Orangi Town. His body was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and identification.
In another incident, a woman was found dead at her home in Baloch Colony area.
The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Aneela. According to police, initial investigation has revealed that the woman has committed suicide over some domestic dispute.
Meanwhile, some unidentified armed men attacked a fire station in Baldia Town. According to fire station staff, unidentified armed men exposing themselves the gangsters of Lyari had sent an extortion chit of Rs200,000 two days ago and warned of dire consequences if the amount was not paid.
As the extortion money was not paid, armed gangsters arrived on about half dozen motorcycles and damaged infrastructure of the fire station.
When contacted, SHO Zahid Hussain said they had no information about the attack and demand of extortion.
