KARACHI - Police managed to arrest six suspects of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan after an encounter in Sohrab Goth, one of the city’s no-go areas.
Abdul Rauf son of Khaliq, Qayyum Khan son of Ali Mohammad, Sher Ali son of Kareem Ali, Rehmatullah son of Sultan, Hazratullah son of Mohammad Khattab and Niaz son of Haji Jan are the suspects arrested, disclosed by Sohrab Goth police on Friday.
Police officials said that they on a tip off raided a house in Scheme 33 Janjal Goth. As the police team reached there, the suspects opened fire at it, provoking retaliation. After an exchange of fire, the police team arrested the accused while some of their accomplices managed to flee from the scene.
Police officials said that the suspects are involved in various cases of crime including terrorism and collecting extortion in the name of Taliban. Police suspected their involvement in number of cases of target killings, and they are also being questioned about their possible involvement in over half dozen cases of target killings of police officers and personnel in Sohrab Goth.
Police said that one of the arrested accused Qayyum Khan is the cousin of Sher Zaman Mehsud, a Taliban commander who had been reportedly killed by his own companions over some dispute.
