Of threats east & west

"Is India not a threat?", asks your editorial of June 25. President Asif Zardari believes India no longer poses any threat to Pakistan. As a corollary to the role of mercenary soldiers that we have chosen for ourselves by selling our soul to the devil for a few dollars, the friend of the US, i.e. India, becomes our friend and the enemies of the US, i.e. Taliban of Afghanistan, are our enemies. In our enthusiasm to please our masters and to 'do more' we forget that during Pakistan's existence of 60-plus years, it was only during the Taliban regime that Pakistan enjoyed cordial relation with Afghanistan. That special relationship ensured a secured western front, leaving our forces to defend the motherland against threats from the eastern front. -BARRSITER BAACHAA, Peshawar, via e-mail, June 25.
