Despicable stratagems

Our politicians use despicable, roguish and evil stratagems to outwit one another in the field of politics. Just as a juggler keeps several balls in motion in air at the same time by alternately tossing and catching them, our politicians are skilful in keeping the various problems of the common man in motion in air at the same time and holding the opponents responsible for the problems of the masses. Mr. Nawaz Sharif and Mr. Zardari have once again adopted the path of confrontation instead of collaboration, conveniently ignoring this fact that Pakistan is in its worst crisis these days. Still the elections are one and half years away and the mainstream leaders have started disturbing each other's apple carts merely to hoodwink the masses. On the 58th birthday ceremony of Ms Benazir Bhutto, President Asif Ali Zardari used highly derogatory language against Mian Nawaz Sharif. It was bewildering to hear from him that it was Mr. Sharif's thinking that assassinated Ms. Bhutto. Only three years ago, he very vociferously imputed the murder of Ms Bhutto on the Chaudhries of Gujrat who are now his bedfellows. Sometimes, he holds Musharaf responsible for killing his wife and sometimes Baitullah Masud. All this isgobbledygook to the nation as Mr Zardari has still not been able to know who actually murdered the former premier. On the other hand, Mr Sharif is also caught on the wrong foot as he is continuously calling Mr. Zardari as the most corrupt, dishonest and hypocritical person on this planet. What purpose such remarks would serve? I would like to focus the kind attention of both the leaders towards this ugly reality that Pakistan has stood 12th in the list of failed states this year. The price of each commodity is galloping and crippling the common man. The two leaders should spare a thought for those Pakistanis who are confronting 18-hour-long power outage daily these days in sizzling heat. Terrorism is at its peak. Unemployment is compelling the youth to commit suicides. Education is at its nadir. There is unprecedented increase in lawlessness. Even potable water is not available to millions of my countrymen. I humbly solicit both the leaders not to pass buck to each other. Rather they should sincerely and solemnly try to solve these poignant problems of the Pakistanis and believe methey can do if onlythey develop sincerity and earnest devotion. MUBUSHAR ALI SULEHRIA, Wah Cantt, June 25.
