ISLAMABAD - Kiran Khan and Pakistan Army stole the limelight of the 12th National Womens Open Swimming Championship on the final day. Kiran Khan clinched overall 14 gold medals and Pakistan Army with 548 points won the event here at the Pakistan Sports Complex on Sunday. Wapda and Navy grabbed second and third positions respectively. In 50m Breaststroke, Lianna Sawan of Army won the gold, followed by Khadija Khalid (Wapda) silver and Alina Haji (Sindh) with bronze. In 50m Backstroke, Kiran Khan of Army won the gold, Aleesha Mitha (Sindh) silver and Mahnoor Maqsood (Army) bronze. In 800m Freestyle Mahnoor Maqsood (Army) gold, Alina Haji (Sindh) silver and Eesha Khan (Army) bronze, In 50m Freestyle, Kiran Khan (Army) gold, Mahnoor Maqsood (Army), silver and Rida Mitha, Sindh, bronze. In 50m Butterfly, Kiran Khan won the gold, Eesha Khan also from Army, silver and Rida Mitha, Sindh, bronze. In 4x100m Freestyle Relay the team from Army comprising Mahnoor, Eesha Khan, Lianna and Kiran Khan won the gold followed by Sindh, Anushe, Aleesha Mitha, Alina Haji and Rida Mitha silver while the team from Wapda, Khadija Khalid, Afia Shah, Azaifa Snafi and Rizma Farooq won the bronze. In the mens event of the 51st National Men's Open Swimming Championship has come to an end with Pakistan Army dominating the event with 15 gold medals here on Sunday. In 1500m Freestyle, Israr Hussain and Nisar Ahmed of Army won gold and silver respectively while G Muhammad of Wapda took bronze. In 50m Freestyle Wapda's Usman Javed won the gold, M Ikram of Army, silver and Mazhar Naqvi, Wapda, won the bronze. In 50m Butterfly Nasir Ali of Army won the gold, Farukh Butt, Wapda, silver and Usman Javed, Wapda, bronze. In 50m Breastroke Abdul Aziz of Wapda gold, Tanveer Ahmed, Wapda, silver and Zohry Khan (Army) bronze. In 50m Backstroke Faiz of Army won the gold, Atif Khawaja, Wapda, silver and M Mansoor (Army) bronze. In 4x100m Medley Relay, the team of Army comprising M, Asif, Nisar Ali, Zohray Khan and Israr won the gold, Wapda's Mumtaz Naqvi, Tanveer, Farrukh Butt and Usman Javed, silver, Navy team of M Zahid, Zeeshan, Ali Gul and Ishtiaq won bronze. On final day Pakistan Army lead the points table with 16 golds, nine silvers and six bronze medals with total 548 while Wapda with three golds, 10 silvers and 10 bronze medals and with total 268 points placed second, Navy three bronze medals with total points 78 got third position while Punjab having no medal with total 30 points placed fourth and KP with no medal total 16 points fifth, Sindh with no medal got 12 at sixth place and HEC no medal total points 05, Islamabad no medal no points and Balochistan no medal and no point. Kiran Khan of Pakistan Army was declared best ladies swimmer while Israr Hussain of Army was awarded best mail Swimmer award. Brig (Retd) Arif Siddiqui former DG Pakistan Sports Board was the chief guest on the occasion and later distributed prizes among the swimmers.
