KARACHI - The residents faced another hot Sunday, as despite being a holiday the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) showed no mercy and prolonged power outages made lives of the Karachiites miserable. Despite weekend, the KESC switched off the electricity for at least 12 to 18 hours on the name of maintenance and people faced hardships. The inside sources of KESC said the system of the utility has failed to meet the increased electricity demand and its system developed faults and tripping at various places during the hot weather. While the charged people strongly condemned the working ability of the utility. The people of congested areas including Malir, PECHS, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Liaqatabad, New Karachi, Surjani, Khuda Ki Basti, Lyari, Sadder, I.I. Chundrigarh Road and other parts of the city also reportedly created law and order situation. The resident of North Nazimabad informed that they have been deprived of all source of lives. The government snatched the last piece of bread from the hand of the common people; our all commercial and private activities have been stopped. We have no chance except to hold protest against the atrocities of the government, he added. He said they are facing worst afflictions caused by protracted spans of loadshedding despite repair work and payment of heavy bills throughout the year, which is impacting on their routine life. On the other side, General Secretary of KESC Democratic Mazdoor Union Muhammad Ishaq along with Muhtashim Ahmed and Arif Siddique organised a press conference at local hotel on Sunday. Ishaq informed that upcoming rains will make the situation further worst and power outage will longer than ever because of the shortage of operational staff. More than thousands workers and staffers are willing to avail the VSS Scheme, he said and added that Union should be stayed out of it if anybody showed willingness to VSS. Management ensured to enhance VSS value and also not forces anybody for the scheme, he pointed out.
