ISLAMABAD - After listening to the problems faced by the IT and telecom sector, Minister of State for Information Technology Anusha Rehman held a meeting with Pakistan Telecom Authority here on Wednesday to address the issues faced by the sector.

In a meeting with the Minister, CEOs of telecom companies had raised several issues faced by the IT & telecom sector. The major issue discussed was about the launching of 3G technology in the country that was being delayed for a long time.

Anusha Rehman in her meeting with the high-ups of Pakistan Telecom Authority raised the issue and sought for its earlier solution along with the other problems faced by the telecom industry. It is pertinent to mention here that third generation technology is being delayed since the time of Pakistan People’s Party govt. Many of PTA chairmen were also replaced during last few years but 3G could not be launched.

Many times the dates were set for the auction of 3G licenses and telecom companies were fully prepared to take part in the auction but then it was cancelled due to irregularities reported in the auction process.  Senate Standing Committee on IT also took up the issue and advised PTA to make the whole process transparent that must be acceptable to all and especially should be in the favour of public of Pakistan.

But PTA never had a chairman competent enough to resolve the issues. The new government again has started the process though a time frame is not given yet.
