ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has refused to take new bulletproof cars and directed to place the same at the disposal of Cabinet Division. Sources in the government confirmed to The Nation that Prime Minister has refused to take these new bulletproof cars for Prime Minster’s cavalcade and in this connection a letter from the Prime Minister’s Office has also been sent to the cabinet secretary.

It is suggested in the letter that as the Prime Minister’s motorcade has sufficient bulletproof cars in good condition so these new cars should be placed at the disposal of Cabinet Division to bring in exclusive use for the foreign dignitaries visits. Sources in the government informed that allocation of huge funds for purchase new vehicles for Prime Minister’s cavalcade was made in the last budget and the process of the purchase of these vehicles was made on the direction of former Premier Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani. The deal was matured during the period of caretaker government and could not be reversed right now. The sources in the government further informed that Nawaz Sharif had also asked for looking into the possibility of cancellation of the purchase deal but after looking into the aspect of the huge loss in the process it was decided to carry on the deal and utilise these vehicles other than the use in the Prime Minister’s cavalcade. The sources said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had strictly ordered that no new car be induced in his motorcade and these vehicles should be placed at the disposal of Cabinet Division for the exclusive use for the foreign dignitaries visits.
