Lahore -Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Syed Khurshid Shah, on Wednesday said that victimisation against President Asif Ali Zardari was continuing despite the fact that Swiss Authorities have written back to the government of Pakistan that the cases against the President could not be re-opened because they had become time barred.

“New government’s move to approach the Swiss authorities to reopen the cases was sheer vendetta of the Nawaz Sharif govt against the President”, he said in a Press statement.

He said that it seemed that the PML-N govt had again decided to do the politics of 1990’s which was evident from its decision to hire the same lawyer who had already been paid crores of rupees from the government exchequer since 1997.

Khurshid Shah expressed his dismay that the government had approached the Swiss authorities to re-open the cases without new evidence which clearly manifested the malafide on its part

The PPP leader reminded that Accountability Court, Rawalpindi, in its judgement pronounced in July 2011 had acquitted main accused A.R. Siddique and held that President Asif Ali Zardari had protection under Article 248 of the Constitution.

He further said that the court had also held that it had been proved that  Zardari and others have not received any gratification and undue advantage in the form of commission and as such have not caused any loss to the public exchequer. The judgment has attained finality as no appeal was filed against it, he added.

He reminded that the previous PPP-led government did not initiate a single case against the politicians in the largest interest of democracy and the Federation.
