KARACHI  - Three MQM workers were shot dead in separate incidents in Karachi on Thursday.
An activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead at Hussainabad in Azizabad police precincts.
The victim was identified as Zeeshan, 30, resident of Block-3, Federal B area. Police officials said he was standing at his brother’s juice centre when two armed men riding a motorcycle came and escaped after shooting him multiple times apparently over political basis. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. No case has been registered.  Another MQM worker Ali Izhar was shot dead in Kharader police precincts. Police said Izhar was standing near Allah Rakha Park when gunmen riding a motorbike targeted him and fled. Police took the victim to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead . Police suspect that Lyari gangsters were behind the incident. It handed the body over to the family after autopsy.
In another similar incident, gunmen killed an activist of MQM , Akber in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. Police said earlier, the victim escaped such attacks twice. He was rushed to a private hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

rockets attack
Law enforcement agencies claimed to have arrested five suspects during the search operation in Musharraf Colony area of Mauripur, Karachi following three consecutive rocket attacks in parts of District South.  A woman and two men were wounded in three consecutive rocket attacks on Wednesday night, hitting the areas considered to be highly sensitive.
Police said the first rocket hit the wall of Pakistan Navy complex in Lyari, the second fell on the roof of a house in Docks area while the third hit a container in a containers terminal at Karachi Port. Following the rocket attacks, the police and Rangers conducted search operation in Musharraf Colony area and apprehended around five suspects belonging to the militant outfit during door-to-door search operation. The suspects were shifted to undisclosed location for further questioning.
Though the police have yet to ascertain from where the rockets were fired, the police officials suspected that the rockets were fired from District West area. “It had three kilometers range and most probably, they were fired from District West or Lyari Riverbed,” said City division SP Sheraz Nazeer. Police believed that rockets did not harm the installations but it is a matter of concern. Police continued looking for militants who carried out the attacks.
SP Nazeer said to avoid such incidents in future, police had started conducting search of the key areas including Musharraf Colony, Sikanderabad, Sultanabad, Hijrat Colony, Shirin Jinnah Colony and Macchar Colony where an intelligence network had also been extended. The police were also waiting for the bomb disposal squad’s report. The cases of rocket attacks were registered against the unidentified persons and further investigation was underway.
On the other side, police and rangers claimed to have arrested 74 suspects in various raids across the City. Police said total 64 accused persons were arrested during 80 raids while some six encounters had also been taken place. However, the rangers carried out the operation in Musharraf Colony area and arrested some 10 suspects.  
Meanwhile, an alleged rapist was apprehended during a raid at Bakkhar Goth in Sacchal police precincts. Police said the accused identified as Muhammad Ali. He was arrested over his alleged involvement in subjecting a minor girl to rape and later killed. SHO Ismail Lashari said the accused had kidnapped and subjected a minor girl to rape and later killed her on Wednesday night. He said the accused was arrested after the residents of the area and the family of the victim informed the police. The accused was the neighbor of the victim. He kidnapped the girl when she left home to buy sweets. He said the accused had been arrested and further investigation was underway.
Rs0.4m bank heist in Karachi
Gunmen on Thursday looted rupees 0.4 million from a bank in Karachi.
Police said four bandits barged into the branch of a local bank and held the staffers and customers hostage on gunpoint. Robbers took cash from the counter and managed to flee from the scene. SHO Qalander Bux Solangi said the footages recorded by the camera installed in the bank were preserved for investigation. The case has yet to be registered till this report was filed.
Bandit killed in Karachi ‘encounter’
A bandit was killed in an ‘encounter’ with the police at Malir 15, Karachi on Thursday.
Police said the encounter took place when three robbers were busy looting passersby during the traffic jam. Police personnel on routine patrolling reached there. District Malir SSP Rao Anwar said during an exchange of fire, one robber was killed and two of his companions managed to escape under the cover of firing. The police have also recovered weapons from his possession. The body of the robber was shifted to morgue, Sohrab Goth for identification after medicolegal formalities at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Meanwhile, a young man was found dead from Landhi No 6. Police said the body was packed in a gunny bag. Several marks of torture and bullets were found on his body. The victim has yet to be identified. The body was moved to morgue after autopsy at JPMC.
