VEHARI-After registration of a murder case against policemen of Luddon Khizar Hayat station, the district police officer has formed a committee to probe the killing of an alleged thief in a state-run hospital after “thrashing” by public.
The alleged thief had earlier tortured by a mob during a theft bid here the other day. As per the case details, the police had received a call that a thief had been caught by a mob at Riazabad and he was in critical condition after facing the brutal torture by the people as a result of theft attempt in Government Higher Secondary School Riazabad.
After receiving the information, ASI Khalid Mehmood had immediately moved to the place and found the alleged thief tied with a bed in critical condition, police sources claimed.
Police immediately shifted him to Rural Health Centre Luddon, Later, he was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Vehari and the policemen returned to police station, the police said. However, the alleged thief namely Zainul Abadin succumbed to the injuries while he was being shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan because he was still in critical condition.
After the death of Zainul Abideen, the brother of deceased had said that police killed his brother and demanded FIR against the police. Resultantly, on the order of DPO Ghazi Salahuddin, an FIR was launched against ASI Khalid, Arshad, M Zia, and five others. However, the placemen said that the DPO ordered the FIR without proper investigation and examination.
According to a survey conducted by The Nation, local people and police officials said that the accused cops were not guilty because they had just shifted the injured to RHC and then DHQ and not tortured him. They said that Zainul Abadin,s brother got the FIR registered to blackmail the police. They said that Bashir Ahmad, the security guard of the school, Abdul Ghafoor, Munir and other people were directly or indirectly involved in the lynching.
Now, the DPO has formed an investigation committee consisting of DSP Shabbir Ahmed, DSP Zulifqar Ali and Inspector Yasin and Sub-Inspector Javed Ahmed to probe the matter.
To a question, Javed Iqbal said that all the members of the committee are highly professional with a broad investigation exposure.
Now, this is the responsibility of committee to dig up the hidden truth of the matter.
