The PPP is now saying that late Benazir Bhutto will be happy with the decision of restoration. My question is, if Benazir was really for the restoration of Iftikhar Chaudhry, why was every one in the PPP so dead set against it. Obviously Benazir had made it known to her party that Iftikhar Chaudhry was a threat to her and had to be kept out of the Supreme Court. Shehla Raza actually narrated an incident on a TV channel according to which when Benazir was asked in a party meeting about the change in PPP's stance, she had accused Iftikhar Chaudhry of having passed judgements in favour of Musharraf for his own personal benefit and, hence, he was no longer the people's judge. Of course, she could not have told them that she too was supporting Musharraf for her own personal benefit. -KHURSHID ANWER, Lahore, via e-mail, March 20.
