BISP and upcoming elections

28 centres with 3000 orphans have been raised by Mr. Zamard Khan of Bait-ul-Mal by the PPP, on the quiet. The nation is unaware of such a huge noble adventure. It ought to have been publicized, widely. According to the Nation of 14 March, 2012, it is a project which took off from seeking donation for an orphan child and now flourished into a full fledged Orphan Homes where more than 3000 orphans are now living. The 3000 orphans are also getting free food, shelter and education. One can imagine the colossal amount being spent on them. One wonders where the source of money is coming from.
I have another paper in front of me. It is the Express Tribune, March 24, 2012. It is about BISP beneficiaries demanding inquiry into non-payment of funds. It is in Swat that a protest against post office was held for withholding their monthly installment despite the allocation of funds and appealed to the government to initiate an inquiry. They say that there is an influential man, a dispenser by profession who says he has paid for the BISP (Benazir Income Support Programme) for this village by giving the post office Rs.350,000/- and it is now for him to decide.
Benazir Income Support Programme is under discussion as the Benazir’s card for getting votes in the coming election. Recently, there are some letters appearing in the papers about BISP wherein Farzana Raja of PPP has contributed Rs. two billions amongst people in AJK. In June 2011, PTI Chairman alleged that Rs 70 billion funds for BISP were being misused by PPP for preparation of next election. Imran Khan was annoyed that in contrast only rupees one billion was allocated for teachers and staff of BECS, for the entire country. Lot of money has already gone to Benazir’s Card since two years by PPP, who are now well equipped to take on the elections at any time. Other political parties have been left behind.
