KARACHI – Sindh Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (r) Zahid Qurban Alvi has stressed the law-enforcement agencies to take action against the criminals and perform, adding there must be liaison between all institutions, including police, rangers and other security agencies.

Presiding over a high level meeting on law and order at the Chief Minister House on Tuesday, he said stressed upon police officers to pay full attention towards improvement of law and order in the province particularly in Karachi. It must be ensured that prompt action is taken against criminals and anti-state/anti-social elements without any discrimination.

The meeting was attended by Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Abbas, Sindh IG Police Shahid Nadeem Baloch, Additional IGP Karachi Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, Additional IG Police Special Branch, Additional IG Police CID, all DIGs of Karachi Police and all SSPs of Sindh province.

He added that he does not expect any miracle from police but at the same time, he is confident they will make coordinated efforts and achieve better results.

He said that the main task of caretaker government was to conduct elections and provincial government will provide maximum possible assistance to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Alvi maintained that it is the prime duty of the police to maintain law and order, and provide security to the life and property of the citizens without considering any fear or favour.

He added that police will be empowered and provided with modern arms and ammunition, while their genuine problems will be solved so as to achieve best results as far as maintenance of law and order is concerned.

The CM further said that traffic system be improved throughout the province particularly in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and other cities. Efforts be made to improve signaling system, proper functioning of surveillance cameras and smooth flow of traffic without any hindrance.

He added that any responsibility assigned to any officer must be fulfilled in letter and spirit. “We have to create a clear picture depicting the role of police in the minds of general public so that people should cooperate and support the LEAs in connection with maintenance of law and order.” Besides it is essential to create working relationship among police, rangers and other law-enforcement agencies, he added. He said that genuine problems faced to police officers officials would be solved in the interest of performance.
