LAHORE – British educationist Sir Michael Barbar has said that education sector of Punjab is unparalleled in developing countries and through modern reforms, such a infrastructure has been developed due to which amazing results have been received in less than two years period.

He said that such positive results which have been seen in Punjab are unprecedented in 22 developing countries where DFID is assisting.

These views were expressed by him while delivering his special lecture on the topic of “The Good News From Pakistan” at Lahore University of Management Sciences, here today. He said that the growing population of Pakistan is resulting in numerous problems and among these, education is the foremost. He said that record development has been made in education sector during the last two years and by enrolment of students especially in primary and secondary education, teachers’ attendance, provision of missing facilities and through overcoming administrative problems, splendid results have been achieved.

He said that special teams were formed for enrolment of new children in villages, towns and far- flung areas so as to ensure education to every child which is his basic right. Sir Michael Barbar congratulated Chief Minister Punjab for his personal interest and regular monitoring of this process and said that the way he has introduced educational reforms on emergent basis in Punjab is yielding positive results. He said that it shows the love of Sir Michael Barbar to Pakistan. Singer Shehzad Roy lauded Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for paying special attention to education sector. Secretary Schools Punjab Aslam Komboh said that due to Sir Michael Barbar, excellent monitoring and international trends have been adopted in education sector in Punjab. District Education Officer from all over Punjab as well as teachers and students of LUMS were present in large numbers on this occasion.

Issuing 84-page report of think tank ‘Reform’ at LUMS, Barbar praised Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for reforms in Punjab.

 He said that Punjab has made exemplary progress in education sector during the last two years and the presence of teachers in government schools has been ensured to an extent that it is unprecedented in 22 developing countries where DFID is assisting.

On this occasion, the hall of LUMS was jam packed with the male and female students who clapped and raised slogans when Sir Michael Barbar paid rich tributes to Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. Singer Shehzad Roy said that the services rendered by Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in the field of education are unique.
