ISLAMABAD - Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Tuesday congratulated Justice (retired) Mir Hazar Khan Khoso on assumption of the office of the prime minister of Pakistan.

The chief of army staff assured the caretaker premier of all-out support from the Pakistani military for free and fair general elections in May this year.

Kayani also briefed Khoso on security matters with regards to the upcoming polls. The army chief remained with the premier at the Prime Minister's House for some time.

INP adds: Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has summoned an important meeting of corps commanders today.

General Kayani will chair the meeting which will discuss key issues, including army chief's recent meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry.

The army chief met Kerry on Sunday during his scheduled visit to Jordan. According to the ISPR, both discussed reconciliation process in Afghanistan and security issues in South Asia.

Decisions relating to Army's support to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during the general elections, and the reconciliation process in Afghanistan and Nato troops withdrawal from there are likely to be discussed during the meeting.
