LAHORE – PML-Likeminded President Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that his group candidates will contest the next elections on the election symbol of their own party though they have struck seat-adjustment accord with the PML-N.

Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, who had meeting with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Sharif at Raiwind on Tuesday, told The Nation that the candidates of the Likeminded will contest elections on the platform of their own party under the party election symbol.

He termed successful his meeting with PML-N leaders, saying that dueing the meeting seat adjustment in the Sindh was discussed and the decision on joint contest was made.

The Likeminded group have struck the seat adjustment formula with the PML-N in May last wherein besides seats allocation for the electable, a room was left for both sides to contest elections on a single election symbol.

In TV talk shows, some PML-N leaders had highlighted that the Likeminded would contest elections on the symbol of ‘tiger.’ However, Dr Arbab has announced contest on ‘leaf,’ the election symbol of Likeminded.

Meanwhile, the PML-N and the PML-Likeminded have decided to jointly work out election strategy for Sindh wherein other parties of the province will also be reached out. The leaders also discussed Sindh law and order situation and the measures how it could be maintained for election and after that.

Nawaz Sharif said on the occasion stressed the need for joint effort to cope with challenges confronting the country. He said his party will support whatever political parties carry forward national agenda in the interest of safety of the country. Nawaz termed the next elections very important for the survival of the country and wellbeing of the nation. Dr Arbab told the media that despite security threats he was proceeding to Sindh. He said he has urged the Sindh interim government to provide him security and the response was positive.  He ruled out any differences with the MQM. About the possibility of seat adjustment with the APML of Pervez Musharraf, he said: “(There is) no room for this adjustment. We trust Nawaz Sharif and will move along with N-League.”
